Porcelain Veneers

Unhappy about the colour, shape or constant chipping of your front teeth? Porcelain veneers may be your treatment choice.

Porcelain veneers are thin, custom made coverings that are cemented over the front your teeth, to help restore their strength and natural appearance. You may be a candidate for porcelain veneers if your front teeth are:

  • crooked

  • discoloured

  • chipped or worn

  • spaced out

  • poorly shaped

Porcelain veneers are very similar to cosmetic bonding, however they normally require slight preparation of the tooth before placement. This preparation allows for space to fit the veneer without it appearing or feeling bulky. No preparation veneers can be an option in rare cases. All this will be discussed prior to your first visit and perhaps a 'wax-up' of what the veneers will look like can be made to ensure you are perfectly happy with the proposed treatment.

First appointment - very similar to a crown, the teeth will be prepared, an impression made of the teeth and sent to our dental laboratory. The ceramic technician will then construct and design your veneer to the finest detail.

Second appointment - usually two weeks later, we will remove the temporary veneer we constructed for you and we will try in the veneers. Ensuring that the marginal fit, bite and aesthetics are perfect before getting the OK from yourself to cement in the veneer.

Veneers, although stronger than direct cosmetic bonding, are still not as strong as natural teeth. They require caution when biting into hard foods, nail biting or with a clenching or grinding habit. In fact, a grinding mouthguard may be advised to increase the longevity of your new teeth!
